In a joint research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) "Radiation Protection in the Clinic - Exposure of Clinical Staff during Nuclear Medicine Therapies (ExperT)", coordinated by Helmholtz Munich, Institute of Radiation Medicine, open questions about radiation exposures of clinical staff and caregivers of patients with metastatic, castration-resistent prostate cancer during nuclear medicine therapy will be answered in joint network projects.

The aim of this sub-project is to develop biokinetic models for the therapeutic nuclides of interest and to further develop them into pharmacokinetic models for Ac-225-PSMA, Ra-223 (Xofigo) and Lu-177-PSMA using experimental data from all sub-projects. Internal dosimetry will be calculated for clinical staff, patients and their caregivers using the modelling results and clinical imaging data.

Your mission

  • Establishment of biokinetic models according to ICRP for the therapeutic nuclides of interest.
  • Further development of the population models into pharmacokinetic models for Ac-225-PSMA, Ra-223 (Xofigo) and Lu-177-PSMA with clinical measurement data.
  • Simulation of the activity distribution in the organs of clinical staff and patients.
  • Determination of internal dose based on modelling results and clinical imaging data.

Your qualifications

  • Master degree in natural sciences or engineering, e.g. physics, medical physics or related fields.
  • Knowledge of biokinetic modelling and internal dosimetry.
  • Experience and/or interest in nuclear medicine, radiation protection and dosimetry.
  • Experience with the model software SAAM II and other numerical simulation tools desirable.
  • Team player skills and enthusiasm to work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment.
