At Helmholtz Munich, we develop groundbreaking solutions for a healthier society in a rapidly changing world. We believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation. Through strong partnerships, we accelerate the transfer of new ideas from the lab to real-life applications, improving lives.

Your work provides the foundation for scientific discoveries with real impact, shaping the future of health.

The Communications & Strategic Relations department is responsible for positioning the research center in the relevant target groups, developing and implementing sophisticated communication measures with and for our excellent researchers - across all communication channels. In this way, we increase both the visibility of our scientific successes and the attractiveness of Helmholtz Munich as an employer and preferred cooperation partner for other research institutions, university hospitals and companies. A wide range of information services for patients, children and young people complete our portfolio.

We are looking for an experienced Team Leader (f/m/x) to head up our Science Communication team as soon as possible. This position requires expertise in target audience-based science communication and grant management, strong leadership skills, and strategic foresight.

Your tasks

  • As Team Lead Science Communication, you will collaboratively lead a highly committed team that manages content and strategically develops leading scientific health portals such as diabinfo, clever.gesund, and the lung information service. Together with the German Center for Diabetes Research, you will develop new concepts and plan new cooperations by acquiring third-party funding and partners.
  • Together with your team, you will ensure a high level of content for existing products, significantly expand their outreach, and expand the portfolio by acquiring new projects and partners.
  • As project manager, you will be responsible for project proposals, project implementation, as well as monitoring, including reporting with budget overviews.
  • You are responsible for the visibility of your projects and you will find new formats to strategically position them and create greater awareness.
  • The strategic, conceptual and organizational development of external science communication is part of your daily tasks; you will use suitable AI tools to boost resources, efficiency and creativity.

Your profile

  • A successfully completed university degree with a focus on communication and/or natural sciences is the basis of your qualification.
  • You have many years of professional experience in the fields of science communication, third-party funding acquisition and management for strategic target groups, as well as proven leadership experience.
  • You look beyond national borders and are committed to integrating international perspectives and expanding your network.
  • You use digital tools for project management, identify suitable AI tools, and promote relevant knowledge within your team.
  • You have a solution-oriented personality with excellent communication skills (written and spoken German and English), a quick grasp with a high level of implementation strength.
  • You are enthusiastic about health topics and follow the latest trends in science communication.

Desirable qualifications

  • Ideally, you have already worked in the public sector, in a scientific environment and/or with information portals, as well as in international projects.
  • You are certified in agile methods (e.g., Scrum, Design Thinking, or similar).
  • You are experienced in working with M365, content management systems (preferably Typo 3), and AI tools.

If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 14. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years, with the possibility of moving to a permanent contract.
