The Institute of Translational Stem Cell Research (ITS), headed by Prof. Henrik Semb, focuses on developing stem-cell-based therapies to treat patients with Type 1 Diabetes.

ITS is looking for an enthusiastic lab manager candidate (f/m/x) with a background in stem cell biology to work on a human stem cell-based therapy for type 1 diabetes (T1D) as part of a collaborative H2020 project, the ISLET. The position is for two years with a possible extension. The ISLET aims to pioneer a new advanced cell therapy to treat T1D patients. To accomplish this, ISLET gathers a team of internationally leading experts to establish a GMP-compliant manufacturing program based on improved and standardized protocols for the generation and characterization of future stem-based therapies.

The candidate will work closely in a fantastic environment consisting of scientists at the Helmholtz Diabetes Center, an interdisciplinary and translational research center dedicated to diabetes research, the academic GMP-facility TUMCells and the partners of the ISLET project.

Your responsibilities

  • Culture and differentiate human pluripotent stem cells towards pancreatic lineages using 3D culture systems
  • Conception of and draft standard operating procedures
  • Perform in depth characterisation of stem-cell derived pancreatic cell types
  • Conduct flow cytometry, imaging and molecular biology techniques
  • Perform data collection and analysis
  • Responsible for laboratory inventory and organisation
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained and updated when necessary

Your qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Biology with an interest in the field of stem cells or related discipline
  • Experience with stem cell culture and differentiation is required
  • Experience with flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and molecular biology techniques
  • Able to work efficiently in a team and independently
  • Proficient knowledge of English (verbal and written)
  • Exceptional organisational and time-management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Openness and interest in learning new tasks and skills

Desired qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing
  • Experience with animal work is a plus
  • Knowledge of German

Provided that the prerequisites are fulfilled, a salary level up to E 10 is possible. Social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the federal public service (TVöD). The position is (initially) limited to two years, under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
