We are Helmholtz Munich. We discover breakthrough solutions for better health in a rapidly changing world.
We improve people's quality of life through excellent research. Why not join us and make a difference?

The Helmholtz Pioneer Campus (HPC) founded and funded by Helmholtz Munich stands for the intelligent fusion of biomedical sciences, engineering and digitization. At HPC, top scientific talents from across the globe work together on the development of novel solutions that make a difference in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

We are looking for a postdoc (f/m/x) to join our team to develop new time-resolved single-cell RNA-seq technologies and study the interplay between gene oscillations and cellular decision making in stress and during differentiation.

At the Battich lab we are an interdisciplinary team that loves to develop cutting-edge quantitative methods for single-cell genomics and combine them with cellular phenotyping using high-content confocal microscopy. We design data-driven approaches and build quantitative predictive models and use state-of-the-art machine-learning to gain insights into the cellular processes we study.

Your tasks

  • Design and characterize new single-cell sequencing approaches to study gene expression dynamics and oscillations, based on metabolic labelling of RNA.
  • Characterize the genome wide dynamics in expression in different differentiation systems such as models of embryo segmentation and/or neural differentiation.
  • Work in a team to build quantitative models of gene expression dynamics based on interpretable AI.
  • Elucidate mechanisms of how transcriptional dynamics propagate through the genome via gene regulatory networks.
  • Analyse and integrate diverse datasets (e.g., single-cell genomics, proteomics and high-throughput fluorescent microscopy).
  • Use CRISPR-Cas9 perturbation of chromatin regulators to investigate their effects on single-cell transcriptional dynamics.

Your profile

  • PhD in Systems Biology, Genetics, Molecular & Cell Biology or a related quantitative biology discipline.
  • Good publication record with evidence of independence (at least one first-author publication in an international journal).
  • Interest and experience combining computational and experimental work, including demonstrated competency in scientific programming.
  • Experience performing next-generation sequencing experiments, and/or CRISPR-Cas9 technology.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience with experimental work using stem cells or organoid model systems.

Benefits

  • Career Development: Postdoc program, scientific training & career center with tailored offers
  • Recreation: 30 days annual leave, flexi days, plus public holidays
  • International Staff Service: Support with the relocation and integration process in Germany
  • Health Promotion: Sports, company doctor, mental health initiatives
