Helmholtz Munich is a research center with the mission to discover personalized medical solutions for the prevention and therapy of environmentally triggered diseases and promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

The aim of the Institute of Experimental Genetics (IEG) is to understand the developmental mechanisms of human diseases, in particular diabetes mellitus. Besides genetics the IEG researches the effects of environmental factors in the development of disease.

The Applied Computational Biology group at the IEG integrates methods of file and SQL-based data management with modern AI techniques to create powerful modular data processing pipelines for large internal and external data pools to support these goals. The IEG is part of the Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC) and partner in the German Center for Diabetes Research.
