The Institute for Diabetes and Obesity (IDO) is located at Helmholtz Munich. The institute is focused on the development of personalized preventive and therapeutic strategies for diabetes and obesity. The Genetics Unit (headed by Dr. Alberto Cebrian-Serrano) is aiming to investigate the role of new candidate genes in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and obesity and is currently looking for a highly talented and motivated individual to support the project.

Your mission

  • Use and establish a combination of murine and cellular models to characterize and verify candidate genes in the context of type 2 diabetes and obesity
  • Ex vivo tissue analysis of target genes including state-of-the art proteomic and transcriptomic approaches
  • Use rational design and model systems to validate your results and answer relevant questions
  • Lead experimental designs, and collaborate with other team members.
  • Writing of peer-reviewed publications and attending scientific meetings

Your qualifications

  • University degree (Diplom or Master) in Biology or related natural sciences
  • Eligibility to obtain a doctorate degree from the Technical University Munich
  • Great interest to work with mice, experience desirable
  • Good knowledge in in vivo and ex vivo general biological and imaging techniques
  • High motivation, flexibility and resilience
  • Good knowledge in English is essential
