Your responsibilities

At the Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM) and the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD e. V.), Branch Institute Tübingen, we are seeking scientists whose main focus is on bioinformatic analysis in the context of clinical studies. The topics include genetic/epigenetic analyses, omics approaches, microbiome and organ (brain, liver, heart, pancreas, fat cells, kidneys), organ crosstalk analyses and data from imaging processes, primarily human data based on clinical research.

One focus in particular is the further development of approaches for the characterization of sub-phenotypes in prediabetes. The individual working groups of the IDM should be supported in statistical and data-analytical questions.

The place of work is in the Translational Diabetology department (Head: Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Birkenfeld).

Your qualifications

  • PhD or MSc with a focus on bioinformatics or medical data analysis
  • Good knowledge in genetic and omics analysis
  • Good skills in statistical/biostatistcal analyses
  • Detailed knowledge of programming languages, especially Python and R
  • Proficiency in machine learning
  • Excellent ability to act and communicate both independently and in a team-oriented manner
  • Profound interest in application-oriented issues
  • Interest in guiding PhD students and technical employees
  • Motivation and commitment to a scientific/academic career
  • Good command of the English language

Tübingen is a university town in the center of Baden-Württemberg. It is located at the river Neckar about 30 kilometers south of Stuttgart. Provided that the prerequisites are fulfilled, a salary level up to E 13 is possible. Social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the federal public service (TVöD). The position is (initially) limited until 31.12.2025, under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
