The Genomics Core Facility at Helmholtz Munich is recruiting a highly motivated technician (Lab technician/BTA/CTA/MTA/B.Sc.) to join our team. The successful candidate will mainly support our genotyping platform using an automated high-throughput robotic setup to screen cohorts with various Illumina microarrays. You will contribute to sample preparation, quality control, and primary data analysis of the gene array readout. Working closely with other team members you will ensure the timely and effective completion of projects and excellent customer support. The position also offers an excellent opportunity to learn about NGS sequencing, library preparation, single-cell genomics, and spatial transcriptomics, which are all offered at our state-of-the-art core facility.

Your responsibilities

  • Handling sample submissions and quality control of samples for genotyping and next-generation sequencing (RNA, DNA, final libraries).
  • Processing different Illumina arrays for genotyping and methylation (manually and/or with liquid handling robots).
  • Operation of Illumina genotyping machines (iScan, Autoloader).
  • Troubleshooting of technical problems in the sample preparation and genotyping workflows.
  • Establishment of new genotyping arrays and workflows.
  • Support the NGS workflow (library prep and operation of Illumina sequencers).
  • Support the seamless operation of the core (e.g., ordering, regular instrument QC, supply management).

Your qualifications

  • Lab technicia, MTA, BTA, CTA, (Biologielaborant:in) or Bachelor’s degree in biology/biotechnology or a related field.
  • Wet-lab experience and molecular biology lab skills.
  • Prior hands-on experience with Illumina genotyping arrays is a plus, training on robotics and Illumina genotyping instrumentation will be provided when necessary.
  • Experience in working with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Team player with strong communication skills and a proactive mindset, able to work in an international environment.
  • Written and oral communication skills in English and German.

Provided that the prerequisites are fulfilled, a salary level up to E 9 is possible. Social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the federal public service (TVöD). The position is (initially) limited to two years, under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
