The Genomics Core Facility at Helmholtz Munich is recruiting a highly motivated Next Generation Sequencing technician (B.Sc./BTA/CTA/MTA) to join our team of experienced scientists. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of NGS services (e.g., genome, exome, transcriptome, and single-cell library preparation and sequencing), to support various R&D projects for internal and external users, and will work closely with other team members to ensure the timely and effective completion of projects.

Your responsibilities

  • Handling sample submissions and quality control of samples for next-generation sequencing (RNA, DNA, final libraries)
  • Preparation of libraries for different sequencing protocols (manually and/or with liquid handling robots)
  • Operation of Illumina sequencing machines
  • Troubleshooting of technical problems in the sample preparation and sequencing workflows
  • Optimization and testing of new library preparation and sequencing protocols for diverse applications
  • Support the seamless operation of the core (e.g., ordering, regular instrument QC, supply management)

Your qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology/ biotechnology or a related field or a state recognized vocational training as an MTA/BTA/CTA with at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Wet-lab experience and strong molecular biology lab skills
  • Prior hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing technologies and Library preparation methods is a plus, training on robotics and Illumina sequencing instrumentation will be provided when necessary
  • Experience working with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Team player with strong communication skills and a proactive mindset, able to work in an international environment
  • Written and oral communication skills in English and German

Provided that the prerequisites are fulfilled, a salary level up to E 11 is possible. Social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the federal public service (TVöD). The position is (initially) limited to two years, under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
