The primary objective of the Institute of Diabetes and Regeneration Research (IDR) at the Helmholtz Diabetes Center, Helmholtz Munich, is to develop regenerative therapeutic approaches to treat diabetes mellitus - complementary and alternative to the classical immunological and metabolic therapy strategies.

We recently won an ERC Advanced Grant with the project “BetaRegeneration”. The successful candidate will work on deciphering cellular and molecular mechanisms of beta cell protection and regeneration. Based on the previous identification and validation of known and novel therapeutic targets and combinatorial pharmacology, you will explore new avenues of targeted and combinatorial beta cell protection and regeneration.

Your responsibilities

  • In vitro studies: Biochemical, immunohistological, immunofluorescence and molecular biology analyses
  • In vivo physiological studies in diabetes models
  • Preparation and implementation of preclinical experimental studies to evaluate and validate drug target candidates
  • Creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Your qualifications

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry, immunology or related subject and high interest in translational and clinical research
  • Strong background in biochemistry, structural, cellular and molecular biology, islet biology and cellular trafficking
  • Work experience with mice in vivo pharmacology, cell culture and/or primary cells is a plus
  • Entrepreneurship, ability of working independently, with high motivation, flexibility and innovative and creative thinking, as well as team spirit and good communication skills are a must
  • Excellent written and spoken English
