At Helmholtz Munich, we develop groundbreaking solutions for a healthier society in a rapidly changing world. We believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation. Through strong partnerships, we accelerate the transfer of new ideas from the lab to real-life applications, improving lives.

The Institute of Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM) at Helmholtz Munich in Tübingen provides a vibrant, interdisciplinary, and internationally visible research environment. Located in one of Germany’s leading academic hubs, Tübingen has a University of Excellence and hosts world-class research institutions, including several Max-Planck-Institutes and outstanding core facilities for neuroimaging research.

At IDM, we aim to advance the prevention of metabolic diseases and the development of personalized therapies. As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will directly contribute to this mission by studying the interaction between brain function and metabolism, with a particular focus on human neuroimaging and mechanisms linking metabolic dysfunction to brain health.

You will join the Division of Metabolic Neuroimaging and work closely with Prof. Stephanie Kullmann at the interface of neuroscience, metabolism, and translational medicine. We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/x) to join our team and drive these cutting-edge projects forward.

Your tasks

  • Analyze human neuroimaging data, with a particular focus on fMRI
  • Develop, implement, and optimize analysis pipelines using MATLABPython, and R
  • Perform statistical analyses of multimodal human datasets (neuroimaging, metabolic and cognitive measures)
  • Contribute to study design, data interpretation, and manuscript preparation
  • Present findings at national and international conferences
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians, neuroscientists, and metabolic researchers
  • Contribute to the supervision of students and junior researchers where appropriate
  • Contribute to grant writing for current and future projects

Your profile

  • PhD in neuroscience, psychology, medicine, biomedical engineering, computer science, statistics, or a related field
  • Strong experience in fMRI data analysis, (e.g. using SPM, FSL, fMRIprep)
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB and Python
  • Good knowledge of statistical analysis in R
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative research environment
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Publication record in the field of neuroimaging

If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
