NAPSlab, a member of the Institute of Neurogenomics (ING), is investigating the neuronal and astrocytic basis of mammalian sleep using state-of-the-art neurotechnology. Together with ING, we form an international team across multiple disciplines, to understand the genetics of complex and rare disorders.

Your responsibilities

  • NAPSlab utilises cutting-edge technologies to investigate the role of neurons and astrocytes in sleep.In this position, you would characterize sleep in mice while monitoring and perturbing the activity of neurons and astrocytes (calcium imaging, optogenetics, chemogenetics).
  • Planning, and performing in vivo experiments (optogenetics, chemogenetics, calcium imaging, and or behaviour)
  • Animal husbandry
  • Analysis of in vivo imaging and behavioural datasets
        • Transcriptomic profiling of cellular populations
        • Histological analyses of tissues ex vivo
      • Ordering laboratory supplies
      • Maintaining SOPs and laboratory notebooks
      • Training team members

    Your qualifications

    • PhD degree in Life Sciences
    • Animal handling skills (FELASA B training or equivalent)
      • Excellent skills in scientific writing and communication (English)
    • Excellent teamwork; responsible and reliable team member

    • Desired qualifications
    • Experience with in vivo optogenetics, chemogenetics, or calcium imaging
    • Knowledge of EEG recordings and analysis
    • German Language B1
    • Strong computer programming and data analysis skills
