Helmholtz Zentrum München is a research center with the mission to discover personalized medical solutions for the prevention and therapy of environmentally triggered diseases and promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

The Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (Helmholtz-Institut für Metabolismus-, Adipositas- und Gefäßforschung, HI-MAG) at the University of Leipzig, aims at uncovering the molecular underpinnings of adipose tissue dysfunction to enable precision therapies for obesity and its co-morbidities, like metabolic and vascular disturbances, using a clinical translational approach. The institute is part of the Helmholtz Diabetes Center and closely linked to the metabolic research activities of the Faculty of Medicine Leipzig.

Within our group “Applied Vascular Research” we offer a Postdoctoral scientist position. The project aims to uncover the underlying molecular and epigenetic mechanisms of cardiovascular pathology in human samples and swine model using high-throughput single cell techniques (scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq) as well as high-end proteomics and metabolomics techniques.

Your responsibilities

  • Single cell experiments using the 10X Genomics Technology for analyzing human and animal tissues
  • Establishing protocols for human tissue in situ hybridization and imaging
  • Bioinformatic analysis of bulk NGS and single cell data
  • Proteomics and metabolomics analyses

Your qualification

  • PhD in life sciences with a strong background in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry
  • Experience in NGS transcriptomic and epigenetic methods (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, DNA methylation, etc.)
  • Experience in designing and performing single cell experiments with 10X Chromium Technology
  • Experience in performing high resolution imaging and in situ hybridizations (e.g. RNA-FISH) is beneficial
  • Experience in proteomics and metabolomics analyses is desirable
  • Previous experience in handling of human samples is beneficial
  • Knowledge on bioinformatics analyses, especially of single cell data analyses is beneficial
  • An excellent publication record
  • High level of motivation, flexibility and innovative and creative thinking
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

Remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective wage agreement for public-sector employees at federal level (TV EntgO Bund). The position is (initially) limited until 31st December 2021, but under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
