Helmholtz Zentrum München is a research center with the mission to discover personalized medical solutions for the prevention and therapy of environmentally triggered diseases and promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

At our institute you will find a scientifically stimulating international environment. Together with renowned scientists and supported by an excellent infrastructure you will have the opportunity to make an important contribution for a healthier society.

The primary research objective of the Institute of Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases of Helmholtz Zentrum München at the University of Tübingen is the individualized prediction of diabetes risk, diabetes prevention and the personalized treatment of diabetes. The main research focus is on gene-environment interaction in type 2 diabetes.

The Institute is looking for a highly motivated

Your responsibilities

At the Institute of Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases and the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD e. V.) we are looking for scientists, who are interested in the pathogenesis and therapy of type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and fatty liver using cellular and animal model systems.

Glucose tolerance tests and clamp techniques will be used to assess insulin sensitivity. OMICS approaches, molecular biology and protein biochemistry should be used to identify molecular mechanisms, as well as in vivo techniques to assess body composition and energy metabolism. In co-operation with our international and national partners, flux analysis of metabolites should be established. Moreover, a translational connection to our strong clinical research is important. Depending on the background and progress, we offer the perspective to habilitate and head the lab. The scientific work takes place in the department of Translational Diabetology.

Your qualifications

  • PhD in Life Sciences (basic science).
  • Profound knowledge of working with metabolic mouse models (ideally experience in hyperinsulemic/euglycemic clamps and appropriate surgical techniques).
  • Profound knowledge of molecular and cellular basics of diabetes.
  • Strong ability to act and communicate independently and in team-oriented manner.
  • Experience in supervising of PhD candidates and technical staff.
  • Motivation and commitment regarding a scientific/academic career.
