The Institute of Translational Genomics focusses on translating insights from genomics and multi-omics into mechanisms of complex disease development and progression. We are seeking a Bioinformatician to join the Analytics team which develops smart solutions for addressing data-intensive problems in complex trait genetics within the institute. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and international team of analysts and researchers working at the forefront of human genetics research.

Your responsibilities

performing exploratory data analysis, quality control and statistical mining on large datasets containing genetic and other health-related data
-
maintaining and adapting existing analytical scripts and pipelines

developing new pipelines and software
- responding to statistics- or bioinformatics-related requests from other members of the Institute and feedback through presentations and briefings
- keeping up to date with new tools, data releases, and methodological advances in the field
- convey statistical insights in a clear fashion, both orally and in written form, take part in scientific writing
- if there is interest, the candidate can work on side projects and present results at international conferences and symposia

Your qualifications- a degree (PhD or MS with equivalent experience) in a relevant quantitative field (Bioinformatics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or related)
- practical experience of data analysis and visualisation with R
- familiarity with *NIX environments and the bash scripting language
- knowledge of data-wrangling languages such as Perl and Python
- knowledge of high-performance computing environments (SLURM, LSF), and container software (Docker, Singularity)
- command of bioinformatics resources (Ensembl, the GWAS Catalog, genome annotation and expression databases, publicly available datasets)
- familiarity with common statistical genetics tools (e.g. plink, bcftools, GCTA, Hail) and analyses (e.g. association, heritability, alignment)
- spoken and written fluency in English
- interest in system administration and distributed computing environments is welcome
