Helmholtz Zentrum München is a research center with the mission to discover personalized medical solutions for the prevention and therapy of environmentally triggered diseases and promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

The Paul Langerhans Institute Dresden is a satellite institute of the Helmholtz Zentrum München at the University Hospital and Faculty of Medicine “Carl Gustav Carus” of TU Dresden and founding partner of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD e.V.), which is funded by the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). The DZD itself combines experts from all areas of diabetes research, so that basic research, epidemiology, translational research and clinical application deeply interconnect. Research focus of the PLID is the production and protection of the pancreatic islet beta cells for the prevention and therapy of all forms of diabetes.

The group of Tatiana Sandoval-Guzman investigates different aspects of regeneration. The axolotl is a salamander with high capacity to regenerate complex structures such as limbs, but also internal organs. This capacity is limited in humans and understanding the roadblocks is key for the development of therapeutic applications. We are an international team with high energy and collaborative spirit. We approach science with keen curiosity and collegial interaction. Expect intellectual challenges in a friendly and fostering environment.
