With your project, you will investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the increased risk of children of malnourished parents to develop metabolic, cardiovascular and neurological disorders. In particular, you will focus on identifying conserved developmental and neurofunctional programs that are disrupted in response to an aberrant developmental environment.

Your responsibilities

  • Planning and execution of research projects at the interface of molecular biology and metabolism
  • Independent planning, execution and analysis of experiments
  • Investigating metabolism, behavior and neuronal function in complex and C. elegans mouse models
  • Establishing workflows to elucidate molecular and functional changes on a nervous system-wide level
  • Analysis and interpretation of research data
  • Publication and presentation of research results
  • Professional supervision of (PhD) students

Your qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent level of professional qualification in molecular biology, genetics or a related discipline
  • Theoretical and practical expertise in molecular biology and metabolism research
  • Hands-on experience in working with C. elegans and/or mouse models
  • Proficiency in handling large-scale datasets and performing basic bioinformatic analyses (e.g. transcriptomics, GCaMP6s imaging)
  • Knowledge in confocal imaging
  • Enthusiasm to work in an international and interdisciplinary research team
  • High motivation, flexibility as well as innovative and creative thinking are a must
  • A strong academic record documented by publications in high-ranking journals, as well as proficiency in English (verbal and written) are required
