The Battich Lab studies the interplay between nuclear organization, the dynamics of chromatin architecture and the control of gene expression during differentiation of human embryonic stem cells. This position is funded by our ERC Starting Grant.

Your responsibilities

  • Characterize morphological changes of nuclear membrane-less organelles during differentiation of human embryonic stem cells.
  • Perform image-based high-throughput CRISPRi and CRISPRa screens and investigate the functional link between nuclear membrane-less organelles, chromatin conformation, and transcription.
  • Design further experiments to study candidate genes using single-cell omics approaches.
  • Infer developmental trajectories of single cells during mouse and human embryonic stem cell differentiation.
  • Analyse and integrate diverse datasets (e.g. from single-cell genomics, high-throughput fluorescent microscopy).

Your qualifications

  • PhD in Systems Biology, Genetics, Molecular & Cell Biology or related quantitative biology disciplines
  • Good publication record with evidence of independence (at least one first-author publication in an international journal)
  • Interest and experience combing computational and experimental work, including demonstrated competency in scientific programming
  • Experience with experimental high-throughput microscopy methods, and/or experience with single-cell genomics methods
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience with experimental work using embryonic stem cells and/or knowledge of nuclear membrane-less organelles
  • Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 technology
