Genotype imputation is a key part of genetic association studies, utilising large-scale reference panels to yield valuable insights into human disease. Imputation is routinely performed using publicly available imputation servers.

We are looking for a talented individual to assist with the configuration, setup and ongoing running of a publicly available imputation server at Helmholtz Zentrum München. The successful candidate will be embedded in the dynamic digital health community and connected to Helmholtz AI, the national AI platform of the Helmholtz association. This position is based within the Institute of Translational Genomics (ITG) Data Informatics team, which is in charge of developing smart solutions for addressing data-intensive problems across the Institute.

Your responsibilities

Imputation is a crucial step in the analysis of human genetic data and underpins the vast majority of the discoveries in human disease genetics to date. We are looking for a candidate to work on implementing a publicly available imputation server in Munich.

This will require:

  • Software and web development
  • Set up and maintenance of a publicly available web server
  • Work on optimising the workload

Your qualifications

The candidate should be able to communicate efficiently with people of different horizons, including scientific staff, IT personnel and research management. This is a unique opportunity for individuals with an interest in building an EU server, required so as to allow studies to continue to be compliant with GDPR.

Your profile:

  • A degree in computer science, bioinformatics or related computational field
  • Good coding skills (e.g. C, Perl, Python or Java)
  • Experience of setting up administering secure web servers
  • Familiarity with Unix and high performance computing environments
  • Proficient English language skills (both written and spoken)
  • Experience with genotype imputation is desirable
