Our mission as research center: Discover personalized medical solutions for environmentally triggered diseases to promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

The primary objective of the Institute of Diabetes and Regeneration Research (IDR) at the Helmholtz Diabetes Center, Helmholtz Munich, is to develop regenerative therapeutic approaches to treat diabetes mellitus - complementary and alternative to the classical immunological and metabolic therapy strategies.

We recently won a JDRF Grant with a project focused on Advancing Stem Cell-Based Therapy for Type 1 Diabetes togheter with the team of of Prof. Matthias Hebrok and Prof. Carolin Daniel from the Helmholtz Munich Diabetes Center and Prof. Eckhard Wolf from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). The project aims to understand how the immune system’s rejection of stem cell derived islets is mediated and can be prevented in the recipient. The successful candidate will work on optimizing the generation of piPSC-derived beta cells and islets for transplantation into pigs.

To complete our scientific research team starting as soon as possible, we are looking for a highly motivated
