The Helmholtz Zentrum München in Munich, Germany, is a member of one of the leading research associations in Europe - the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. The aim of our research is to proactively detect health risks involving humans and the environment, decoding the mechanisms of pathogenesis and developing concepts for prevention and therapy. The Institute of Medicinal Chemistry headed by Prof. Dr. Oliver Plettenburg is located at the Leibniz University Hannover as a satellite branch of the Helmholtz Zentrum München. The institute is focussed on identifying and optimizing innovative substances as conceptionally new treatment options and providing chemical tool compounds and probes to explore mechanisms of disease pathogenesis.

Your responsibilities

  • Independent development and execution of a project on optimizing chemical structure
  • Designing and conducting organic-chemical experiments
  • Purification and characterization of newly created compounds
  • Analysis of biological data to establish quantitative structure-activity relationships
  • Presentation of the research results achieved
  • Writing scientific publications

Your qualifications

  • Appropriate university studies (Master Degree, Diplom) in organic, medicinal chemistry
  • Broad method spectrum in modern preparative organic chemistry
  • First experience in medicinal chemistry and biochemical work methods
  • Knowledge about imaging techniques and characterization of chemical probes
  • Good working knowledge of the German language and fluency in English
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are expected
  • Being comfortable working with colleagues in a highly interdisciplinary and international setting. We expect high motivation, creativity and a strong commitment to team work.
