A Ph.D. student position is available (next possible starting date) at the Research Unit Radiation Cytogenetics at the Helmholtz Zentrum München. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate (m/f/x) with a strong background in bioinformatics, data analysis and molecular biology. The Ph.D. position is embedded in a project funded by the BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung) and aims to elucidate the role of metabolic processes in response to clinical radio-(chemo)-therapy in squamous head and neck carcinomas. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the LMU University clinics in Großhadern and the University clinics in Essen.

Your mission

  • Generation and bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic RNAseq data from clinical samples, xenograft mouse models, and in vitro models
  • Identification of deregulated metabolic processes by integration of RNAseq data, metabolic and clinical data

Your qualifications

  • MSc degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, molecular biology, medicine or related fields
  • strong Background and/or interest in bioinformatic data processing and analysis (preferably) programming skills in R - Motivation to independently learn and implement state-of-the-art bioinformatical and data analysis methods
  • strong communication skills and interst to work in an interdisciplinary research team comprised of medical doctors, biologists, bioinformaticians, chemists and pharmacists

Remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective wage agreement for public-sector employees at federal level (EG 13 50% TV EntgO Bund). The position is (initially) limited to three years, but under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
