Helmholtz Munich is a research center with the mission to discover personalized medical solutions for the prevention and therapy of environmentally triggered diseases and promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

The Institute of Virology focuses on experimental approaches to combat human pathogens, including the airborne SARS coronavirus-2, which causes COVID-19, a potentially very severe infectious disease. It is largely unclear what underlying factors influence disease progression, and the events of the past few months have shown that we urgently and compellingly need a deeper understanding of pathogens that can trigger pandemics.

To this end, the Institute of Virology is engaged in basic virological research to define therapeutic targets, develop antiviral drugs, develop a better understanding of the immune response to viruses and to vaccines, as well as to the pathological effects of infection on the respiratory organs, the immunopathogenesis of viral infections, and the influence of pre-existing diseases on the clinical picture

Our team at the Munich and Neuherberg sites consists of 10 groups with international staff and is looking for immediate support with 3 positions as scientists or research associates or technical manager (f/m/x) for the establishment of a BSL2 / BSL3 laboratory for the analysis of airborne pathogens.
