The Computational Discovery research group focuses on the intersection between applied data science and systemic metabolism. The primary and long-term objective of our research is to advance a systemic view on the development of insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. In close collaboration with our experimental partners, we follow a systems biology approach to unravel regulatory interactions from genes to metabolism to environment, leading to a better understanding of metabolic diseases and enabling novel diagnostic approaches and personalized intervention strategies.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join our international research team at the Institute for Diabetes and Obesity (IDO) of the newly established Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC) in Munich.

Your responsibilities

As a candidate, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team across several working groups. In close collaboration with our experimental partners, you will develop and apply machine learning and AI based methods for multi-omics, multi-modal data analysis.
Your tasks will be:

  • Develop new methods and approaches for multi-omics & multi-modal data integration
  • Work with complex graphical models
  • Develop and evaluate integrated metabolic models with regard to insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes in different tissues
  • Contribute to different projects within the team in an agile environment
  • Communicate effectively with project partners with different backgrounds.

Your qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or a related subject
  • High motivation, curiosity, and commitment to scientific excellence
  • Strong programming skills
  • Good knowledge of statistics
  • A genuine interest in quantitative biology especially in metabolism/diabetes
  • Prior experience in data analysis/modeling of large biological multi-omics data (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, ...)
  • Team player skills and enthusiasm to work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment
  • Proficient English language skills (both written and spoken)
  • Independent and responsible attitude, collaborative spirit
