Structurally embedded in the Technical University and Helmholtz Munich, the Center of Allergy & Environment (ZAUM) conducts immunological basic research with the clear scope of clinical application. We profit from the clinical input and material transfer provided by the clinics of the Technical University, as well as from an environment of cutting-edge technology and diverse experimental platforms provided by Helmholtz Munich. Our institute is shared between the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Helmholtz Munich, thereby the candidate will have access to both facilities and will become a member of a dynamic team within the institute and with external collaborators.

We are looking for a highly qualified and motivated Group Leader in Innate Immunology & Allergology (f/m/x). The position is supported by an PhD-student position, a start-up funding and has access to a rich infrastructure including cutting edge core facilities. The position has the option for a tenure track and professorial progression along the career system of the Helmholtz association and the TUM career system.

Your responsibilities

  • Design of experimental systems for the identification of novel host-microbiome and innate-adaptive immune cell interactions
  • Creative use of in vitro and in vivo animal systems
  • Experimental design and development of models that allow to dissect mechanisms (in vivo, ex vivo, in vitro; murine human)
  • Transmitting motivation, enthusiasm and commitment to academic science, interest in habilitation and teaching
  • Supervision of technical staff and PhD students
  • Writing of scientific manuscripts and proposals for third-party funding

Your qualifications

  • University degree (PhD) in Immunology, Biology, Molecular Medicine or similar field with outstanding results, publication track record
  • High motivation, enthusiasm, and commitment to science
  • Experience in laboratory work in immunology, molecular medicine, preferably allergy specifically in cell culture, immunologic/biochemical or genetic techniques, or experimental disease models.
  • Previous experience with bioinformatic analysis (R, R Studio) and animal models will be considered advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and goal-oriented
  • An open and curious mindset and team spirit
  • Ability to build up state-of-the-art scientific techniques in the team and to anchor them in the long term
  • At least 3 years of leading experience, supervision of PhD students
  • Excellent communication and scientific writing skills in English
