The Institute of Diabetes Research (IDF1) at Helmholtz Zentrum München focuses on the development, prevention and therapy of type 1 diabetes mellitus. To this end, it investigates the molecular mechanisms of disease development, in particular the interaction of environment, genes and immune system. Your responsibilities

  • Support the research activities of IDF1 to elucidate the causes as well as the immunological and cellular processes involved in the development and progression of type 1 diabetes
  • Establishment and validation of new laboratory methods (cell biology, molecular biology, serology)
  • Project management of biobank and database projects (national and international) including sample selection, preparation and analysis
  • Organization and execution of data collection including careful documentation and evaluation of experimental results and presentation of results
  • Quality control and creation of SOP for sample collection, sample preparation, biobank and data management

Your qualifications

  • University degree in natural sciences with completed doctoral and postdoctoral studies ideally in immunology, cell biology or genetics
  • Desirable methodological spectrum: experience with serological tests (ELISA, LIPS), molecular biology (DNA/RNA Prep, NGS, proteomics) and data analysis
  • Experience with isolation, activation and expansion of human lymphocytes
  • Experience with database and laboratory information and management systems
  • Independent working style and solution-oriented thinking
  • High scientific motivation, initiative and flexibility
  • Very good knowledge of English, good knowledge of German

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting
  • Professional experience in biobanking and collection and processing of human samples in the field of studies
  • Experience in the collection, recording and documentation of clinical and epidemiological data
  • Experience with common statistical programs (R)
