The aim of our research at the Institute of Structural Biology is to proactively detect health risks for both humans and the environment, decoding the mechanisms of pathogenesis and developing concepts for prevention and therapy of diseases.

The Protein Expression and Purification facility lead by Dr. Arie Geerlof is looking for a BTA/CTA (f/m/x) starting April 1st, 2024.

Your tasks

  • Molecular biology work (DNA preparation, plasmid construction, PCR)
  • Protein expression in E.coli and purification, including isotope labeling, for structural biology using NMR and crystallization
  • Opportunity to learn new techniques and to work independently
  • Day-to-day running and maintenance of the laboratory, including ordering 

Your profile

  • Appropriate degree or technical school training as technical assistant (BTA, CTA, MTA) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field
  • Substantial practical and work experience in molecular biology and protein expression and purification
  • Experience with cell culture or protein expression in insect cells
  • Good command of English
  • Good communication skills and team spirit, prepared to work in an international team
  • Ability to work independently, and well organised

If you fulfil all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 9a. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years, with the possibility of moving to a permanent contract.
