The Battich Lab studies the interplay between nuclear organization, the dynamics of chromatin architecture and the control of gene expression during differentiation of human embryonic stem cells. This position is funded by our ERC Starting Grant.

Your mission

  • Have a keen interest in stem cell and developmental biology, as well as learning new skills in quantitative cell biology.
  • Study changes in genome wide transcription and RNA degradation parameters during differentiation in single cells.
  • Implement and develop methods for measuring single-cell chromatin organization and/or time-resolved single-cell RNA sequencing.
  • Design strategies to measure the dynamics of chromatin conformation in single cells during embryonic stem cell differentiation.
  • Use CRISPR-Cas9 perturbation of chromatin regulators to investigate their effects on single-cell transcriptional dynamics.

Your qualifications

  • Excellent MSc in biochemistry, genetics, molecular and cellular biology, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in cell culture and standard molecular biology methods.
  • Experience in designing and performing experiments independently.
  • Fluency in English.

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience in scientific programming and analysis of large-scale data sets.

Remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective wage agreement for public-sector employees at federal level (EG 13 50% TV EntgO Bund). In addition, there is also the possibility of granting an allowance amounting to 15% if the necessary conditions are fulfilled. The position is (initially) limited to three years, but under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
