Our mission as research center: Discover personalized medical solutions for environmentally triggered diseases to promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

The Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (Helmholtz-Institut für Metabolismus-, Adipositas- und Gefäßforschung, HI-MAG) at the University of Leipzig aims at uncovering the molecular underpinnings of metabolic, obesity and vascular disorders to enable precision therapies. HI-MAG is part of Helmholtz Munich. As one of the world’s leading research institutes, Helmholtz Munich is a highly driven and stimulating international environment. Together with renowned scientists and supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure, you will have the opportunity to make important contributions towards scientific knowledge and the improvement of people’s quality of life.

Are you looking for a postdoc position in systems neuroscience? Join us at the JAIS lab at HI-MAG in Leipzig! Our research focuses on the dissection of neurocircuitries activated by palatable, energy-dense food.

Your responsibilities

A considerable amount of evidence points to a pivotal role for the central nervous system (CNS) in the regulation of glucose homeostasis.
To gain new knowledge on the CNS-dependent regulation of glucose homeostasis, you will investigate the role of a specific population of hypothalamic neurons in control of glucose homeostasis. Therefore, you will employ a diverse array of modern molecular systems neuroscience tools, mouse genetics and viral targeting approaches to determine the short- and long-term consequences of the activity of these neurons and to unravel how these neurons are regulated.

Your qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated and independent candidate with the following skillsets

  • PhD with research experience in a relevant field and a strong interest in CNS-dependent control of glucose homeostasis
  • Experience with animal models is mandatory
  • Knowledge of stereotactic surgery in rodents is a plus
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
